About the Author

Dr. Ron Larson is a professor of mathematics at the Pennsylvania State University, where he has taught since 1970. He is considered the pioneer of using multimedia to enhance the learning of mathematics, having authored more than 30 software titles since 1990. Dr. Larson has also authored numerous acclaimed textbooks, including the best-selling calculus series coauthored with Dr. Bruce Edwards and published by Cengage. Dr. Larson received the 2017 William Holmes McGuffey Longevity Award for PRECALCULUS and for CALCULUS. He also received the 2018 Text and Academic Authors Association TEXTY Award for CALCULUS: EARLY TRANSCENDENTAL FUNCTIONS. In addition, Dr. Larson received the 1996 Text and Academic Authors Association TEXTY Award for INTERACTIVE CALCULUS -- a complete text on CD-ROM that was the first mainstream college textbook to be offered on the internet.

Ron Larson received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Colorado in 1970. At that time, he accepted a position with Penn State University in Erie, Pennsylvania, and currently holds the rank of professor of mathematics at the university. Ron is the lead author for over forty mathematics textbooks from 6th grade through calculus. Many of his texts, such as the 9th edition of is calculus text, are leaders in their markets.

Ron Larson is one of the pioneers in the use of multimedia to enhance the learning of mathematics. He has authored multimedia programs that range from 1st grade through calculus. To help with the development of his textbooks and multimedia programs, Ron founded Larson Texts, Inc., which with its publishing wing, Big Ideas Learning, employs about 60 people. Ron’s most recent new textbook series is called “Big Ideas Math”. It is the first middle school mathematics series to adhere to the NCTM’s new “Focal Points Curriculum”.

I ordered this for my college calculus class. Thankfully, it came quick enough that I didn't miss out on doing any homework from the pages. It came in perfect quality, no pages missing and it's not marked up in pen/highlighter. This was the same exact textbook my professor had. Just make sure that you ask your teacher which edition to get because there are different ones. I like how there's answers to each sections questions (which are the questions I have to do for homework), they're only the odd numbered ones, and they don't show work just the final answer but that's good enough. That really helps me to check to see if I got the problem right; much easier than having to email my professor! This textbook was perfect for my needs and I'm glad it got it from amazon at a much lower price had I got it from my school or some other place
