An enjoyable comic-style book that offers an accessible and imaginative introduction to one of the world's great thinkers.
Freud revolutionized the way we think about ourselves. His psychoanalytic terms such as Id, Ego, libido, neurosis and Oedipus Complex have become a part of our everyday vocabulary. But do we know what they really mean? Introducing Freud successfully demystifies the facts of Freud's discovery of pschoanalysis. Irreverent and witty but never trivial, the book tells the story of Freud's life and ideas from his upbringing in 19th-century Vienna, his early medical career and his encounter with cocaine, to the gradual evolution of his theories on the unconscious, dreams and sexuality. With its combination of brilliantly clever artwork and incisive text, this book is an entertaining and informative introduction to the father of psychoanalysis, who is still nonetheless a figure of great controversy.
"'Zarate's artwork is outstanding and Appignanesi's texts are solidly researched and clearly presented.' Washington Post"

Graphic guides are amazing little comic books that concisely and clearly educate you. They are so easy to read and memorable. This one perfectly sums up Freuds life and career and is extremely enjoyable, it's by far my favourite one so far. I have huge compediums on Freud and honestly this was so much easier to read and I learned so much from so few pages.
Like I read the general intro to psychoanalysis by Freud and this briefly explained it in such a way I actually understood Freuds book and works better after reading it.
Such graphic book ! The illustrations are more interesting than the text. If you've read all of Freud, this would be a good summary to put everything in perspective.
Note: I discovered, through buying both volumes, that this book is substantially the same as Freud for Beginners. This review is based on Freud for Beginners.
I got this book for my daughter, who had developed an interest in Freud from a high school psychology class. In her words, it's "really good!" With engaging illustrations, it covers all the basic Freudian concepts and the development of Freud's thought in a clear and comprehensive way, and also contains helpful suggestions for further reading. Don't let the "comic book" style put you off -- this volume is a serious introduction Freud's work.

Couldn't have asked for a better introduction to Freud book. Engaging, clear, excellent narration technique. But the other books in the series are not all as good as this one tho.
