Renting this book for an accounting course this semester is so much cheaper than actually buying it new or from the school bookstore (which totals to $80 something and comes with Excel Quick.) I do not wish to keep these two reference books after completing this course, for those who have experience using excel, you can pretty much find most of the techniques mentioned in this book online somewhere too. I had to get this book for homework. Renting is definitely better than buying. BOOKS DO NOT COME WITH ANY CD'S/SOFTWARE. I am still using this book, so I don't know how the return for rentals would work yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCEL APPLICATION: For Accounting Principles
Verified PurchaseThis book is a practical hands-on approach to learning Generally Accepte4 Accounting Principles. It is the most comprehensive text yet; demonstrating how to use a spreadsheet to solve all your accounting problems.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs editing
Verified PurchaseI rented this book because it was required for an Excel class I was taking. It is not an instructional book, it only contains set-up problems for homework assignments. Be aware that there are many errors in the book, and if you don't know about them, the assignments in the book will not work out. You can download a word doc that lists all errors from the cengage.com website by googling "Excel Applications for Accounting Principles errata."

1.0 out of 5 stars Missing pages 83 and 84: Statement of Cash Flows
Verified PurchaseI guess nobody needs to learn about one of the most important accounting financial statements, am I right?
First off, this book doesn't teach students anything they can't learn in a 30 minute youtube breakdown. This is the "I graduated high school before windows 97 released" starter pack. Of course there's pages missing--it's not like they were going to teach you anything you can't find online for free!
This is ridiculous. I pay an insane rental fee for a book that has literally no educational value just so that I can pass a class THAT IM ALREADY PAYING FOR, so that I can perform these ridiculous monotonous tasks at home FOR the class, and I get to the final assignment ONLY TO FIND OUT I GOT RIPPED OFF? Are you going to message my teacher for me and tell him that you've just been sending out rentals all willy-nilly, letting students across the country take hits for missing pages? No, you're not; you're not capable of taking responsibility for your own actions, as seen in the incompleteness of this textbook.
My suggestion to everyone else: go find this book online for free. It is there.
