This book is well-written and I find its diagrams quite helpful. I can tell it will be a useful reference in the future as I enter medical school. I use the "Neuroanatomy Atlas in Clinical Context" by Haines in conjunction with this book so that I can localize the anatomy on pictures of actual brain and spinal cord sections.

Basic Clinical Neuroscience, 3e provides clear, detailed coverage of clinically oriented aspects of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology to help medical and health professions students better understand neurological and neurosurgical disorders and prepare for board exams. Through concise descriptions of functional systems, the book helps students understand the anatomic and pathophysiologic basis for neurologic abnormalities. Students have consistently praised the book for its exceptionally clear explanations of concepts. Now in striking full color and updated to reflect recent advances in the field, the book emphasizes the localization of specific medically important anatomic structures and clinically important pathways, using anatomy-enhancing, full color 3-D illustrations, as well as schematic illustrations of lesions, pathways, and tracts. The Third Edition is enhanced by additional case studies, clinical images, review questions, and clinical correlations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basic Clinical Neuroscience, 2e
Verified PurchaseThis book refreshes clinical neuroanatomy with very illustrative sketches and drawings which enhance the localisation "arithmetics" in daily clinical work.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is excellent
Verified PurchaseI found an older edition of this book on a library shelf and loved the clarity of explanations. I got the latest edition on Kindle and it is even better.
1. The text assumes no prior knowledge, and yet doesn't delve into unnecessary details. It's an easy read because most unclear terms are immediately defined. Of course, neuro anatomy is hard, but this book makes it easily approachable.
2. The diagrams are stellar. The new edition has colored prints, but the original grey scales were just so clear and elegant, that the colour adds no new information, but looks really pretty. Complex concepts are illustrated perfectly.
3. Clinical relevance: every chapter has some direct clinical relevance in a brief paragraph.
4. Quizzes: there are review questions at the end of each chapter. These review questions have clear, concise answers at the back of the book.
Overall, I would strongly recommend this book to everyone learning neuroscience. Its simplicity makes it a great starter book for a medical or graduate student. The details and the diagrams make it a great review book for a resident or physician studying for exams. So far, this is my favourite neuro anatomy text. (Obviously, if you just want pictures with labels, nothing beats Netter)

Verified PurchaseHad to buy this for a class. Did the job I needed it to do, and I loved how the language in it wasn't too complicated and difficult to understand. It wasn't as dry as some of the thicker textbooks I had to buy

3.0 out of 5 stars "Basic" if your in "the field".
Verified PurchaseHad a PCA stroke about a year ago and wanted to "learn a little" about it. Material requires a base that I am lacking although I am continuing to plow through the book. Comprehension is minimal, retention slightly less.
