Overall, this is a very good introductory textbook to I/O psychology and I would recommend it to other university lecturers. Frank Landy was my boss about 20 years ago when I worked for his consulting firm in central Pennsylvania, and Jeff Conte was one of his graduate students at around that time, so I knew they both had the expertise to write a good industrial and organizational psychology textbook. What surprised me was how lively and dynamic the material in it is presented. I particularly like the sidebars, examples, and case studies. I don't agree with all of their opinions (e.g. I think handwriting analysis is valid as an assessment tool used in a battery with other instruments, and they dogmatically dismiss it), and because I teach overseas I need to cut out a lot of the material that is specific to the practice of I/O psychology in the USA only), but overall the book works VERY well as a thorough introduction to the field, especially with a student body of predominantly non-native English speakers. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ein übersichtliches Buch, das alles Wichtige der A&O-Psychologie enthält

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable text book
Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseOkay it's tough to produce a good academic text book that's fun to read but these guys do well with this.
The subject is brought to life with good examples, plenty of refs to experts in the field and the odd joke or cartoon to liven things up and get you to reflect.
For non US readers, it does feel a bit American-centric but there is a great deal of consideration to globalisation and international aspects of work psychology so it's not too much of a major issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook
Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseLandy and Conte have written a refreshing book on I/O Psychology. It is clear and to the point, making it a very easy and engaging reading. It includes all the usual subjects of Industrial Psych: job analysis, performance measurement, staffing, training and development, etc. The Organizational Psych part is very good, too, covering subjects like stress, violence at work, leadership and teams, among others. This book and Muchinsky's are two of the best textbooks on I/O Psych at the present.

4.0 out of 5 stars Was a Uni textbook
Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseUsed for a Psychology textbook when I did some uni study. A good book - if only workplaces would look to implement modern understandings of how workers work to their potential!
