Review
"In conclusion, the handbook represents a central contribution to the current literature on transnational crime and justice. The authors succeeded to produce a readable, well-structured, and up-to-date material that can be used as a textbook in courses focusing on transnational crime, organized crime, or international criminal justice issues. In addition, this comprehensive and rigorous work provides a valuable guide to transnational crime research and may serve as a reference point not only for scholars but also for practitioners seeking current information on transnational crime and possible ways to prevent or combat illicit activities conducted by organized criminal groups that extend their operations across national borders." --International Criminal Justice Review (2014).

Hello! I am a criminologist and professor in the Wilder School of Government & Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University. I served as Chief of the International Center at the National Institute of Justice. I have traveled widely and have written and edited 19 books. I enjoy teaching, talking about important ideas, and finding links between the great ideas and both the classic and popular literature and movies! My motto is this: life is short, so let's not waste it on trivial pursuits! (although I love soccer, the movies, good coffee, a well-made drink, among other "worthwhile" interests!) See news & updates at Jayalbanese.com. My recent books include: My Search for Meaning: A Professor, His Students, and 10 Great Conversations (McMaster Media Publishing, 2017), Professional Ethics in Criminal Justice: Being Ethical When No One is Looking (Prentice Hall, 4th ed., 2016), Organized Crime from the Mob to Transnational Organized Crime (Routledge, 2015), Transnational Crime and the 21st Century (Oxford University Press, 2011), and Encyclopedia of Criminology & Criminal Justice (Editor-in-chief) 5-volumes (Wiley, 2014).
