I am a second-year dental student, and Neuroscience is one of the most difficult subjects I have had to face this year.
Let me start by saying that this book is one of three I have purchased to supplement my Neuroscience lectures (the others bearing a more clinical/physiological emphasis). However, one cannot really study the intricacies of Neuroscience without learning the sheer anatomical aspects of the nervous system, which are notoriously confusing, and as such are a real challenge. The fact that most texts covering this subject area span hundreds of pages isn't of much help either... especially if you don't really require all that small-print detail.
Well, if you are a university undergraduate facing this problem, this little book is bound to be one of the best purchases you've ever made. It is succintly laid out, with clear, straight-to-the-point explanations of key facts that are really worth remembering, as well as useful clinical references. The fact that it's very short (less than 200 pages!) makes the complicated subject area it's dealing with seem managable, as opposed to overwhelming, which is one of its greatest assets - unlike other textbooks out there, it doesn't demotivate through the sheer volume of (often unneccessarily detailed) information contained within it. Moreover, if you are a visual learner - the diagrams and photos are a definite strength of this particular text, as they are well labeled, aesthetically pleasing, concise, and extremely helpful when it comes to getting your head around some of the more complicated neural pathways. As a bonus - the book is very portable and will not weigh down your bag any more than a notebook, should you decide to take it with you when you're out and about for some on-the-go revision.
Overall, I cannot recommend this text enough. If you are struggling with Neuroanatomy, this handy little reference should address most of your problems!

Purchase options and add-ons
This is a short highly illustrated textbook of neuroanatomy that throughout makes clear the relevance of the anatomy to clinical neurology. It avoids overburdening the reader with topographical detail that is unnecessary for the medical student. Minimum assumptions are made of existing knowledge of the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginner, and ongoing studies
Verified PurchaseThis book explains neuroanatomy well, and I really like that it is in colour. It helps me to visualize brain features when I'm not in the theatre, or the lab. I am very happy with this purchase!
