About the Author

Chris Beckett studied Psychology at Bristol University and qualified as a social worker at Bangor, North Wales, in 1980, going on to work for eighteen years as a social worker and social work manager, and then for fifteen years as a social work lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University and the University of East Anglia. He has had a parallel career for some time as a writer of fiction and is now a full-time writer. His novel, Dark Eden was the winner of the Arthur C. Clarke award for 2012.

Chris Beckett was born in Oxford, England in 1955, and now lives in Cambridge, England. He has published five novels and two short story collections: The Turing Test and The Peacock Cloak. His short stories have been appearing in magazines and anthologies in the UK and the US, since 1990.

The Turing Test, won the Edge Hill Short Fiction Award in 2009, the UK's only national prize for single-author short-story collections. Dark Eden won the Arthur C. Clarke award in 2013.

His sixth novel, America City, will be published in the UK in November 2017, and his third short story collection (and his first venture outside of SF), will appear in January 2018.
