Product description
Review
"This second edition has expanded considerably its predecessor and the main differences are the frequent use of radiographs, CT and MRI scans, brief clinical notes to highlight the more significant areas and also access to an on-line resource and self-assessment tests. At over 500 pages the book is extremely comprehensive and the authors are to be applauded for their meticulous attention to detail. (...) I would foresee that this book will be an essential purchase of all veterinary pre-clinical students and should also find its way onto the shelves of most practice libraries." - Tim Hutchinson, BVSc CertSAS MRCVS; European Journal of Companion Animal Practice, October 2009
"This atlas is a valuable teaching tool for canine anatomy in conjunction with other sources. With its reasonable price, there is little doubt it will gain many friends among veterinary students." Vet Record, May 2010
''The atlas offers regional and topographical anatomy in full colour images with the support of beautiful drawings labelled in full detailswith a nomenclature based on Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria. Dissections of the cadavers are viewed from the surface inward. The use of embalmed cadavers lacks realism, but it is helpful to study the topographical relationship between different anatomical structures.'' Simona T. Radaelli

- Reviewed in Australia on 11 June 2020Format: PaperbackFirst, I will recommend for you to not get the epub version because the schematic diagrams are VERY detailed and unfortunately, show up as rather blurry on all the epub previews I've tried and heard of this issue from my friends who have actually bought the epub. The weird thing is that the photos (that the schematics are drawn based off) are crystal clear, it's just the schematics. I thought it was the first epub version I tried so I tried from different sources and all had the same issue, so I am pretty sure the photos were uploaded in the wrong format or somehow got compressed in the conversion to epub. On top of that, it is sometimes impossible to zoom in on images on epub readers which really sucks especially for images this detailed (even more so if you're trying to read this on your tablet). My rating of the book has not been affected by this, it's just a warning for others. Now for the book itself...
Really helpful diagrams especially for any regional anatomy of dog course or just to have for the clinic I guess. As another reviewer has pointed out, the text isn't that informative and I know it isn't a physiology textbook but its missing information such as what each muscle is innervated by (at least from what I've seen so far). The true utility of this book is that it has both dissected animal photo and a schematic diagram based off of that photo so you're not studying just off of a cartoon (that way when you go to a dissection class not everything looks so alien). I kind of think that this book was initially meant to be a dissection guide or something because it's so different from other anatomy books. Sadly, the specimens are preserved specimens so they aren't exactly like what you will find in dissection, but much better than a schematic diagram for sure. I would really like to see real dissection photos in the textbook but I don't think that would be possible logistically.
I was pretty disappointed by the online "evolve" access thing it comes with. This textbook was released in 2009 but it honestly looks like something out of windows 95. The screen maxes out at about 10 inches which makes it really hard to see what the lines they are using are pointing to since the diagrams - like I've said a million times - are so detailed. It was definitely an afterthought thrown on as a marketing ploy which is sad because I feel like it sullies the integrity of the book, and because it's an online thing which can easily be improved and updated but you can tell Elsevier really doesn't care about it. Still, this is minor and doesn't take away from the book, (but definitely does not add to it).

5.0 out of 5 stars Anatomy of cats and dogs
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseAs an alternative medical practitioner for humans, I was intrigued about the skeletal structure of a friend's dog. The book has excellent clear illustrations. I was very surprised to realise that the human skeleton can easily be compared to that of a dog. Many of the bones (probably not all), have the same names.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Buch, ein MUSS beim Anatomie lernen!
