Purchase options and add-ons

For upper level undergraduate and graduate level Chemical Engineering courses in Pollution Prevention and Chemical Process Design that are offered to Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering students, as well as Practicing Chemical or Civil Engineers interested in finding ways to prevent pollution.

This book is the result of the USEPA (Environmental Protection Agency) green engineering curriculum development effort for chemical engineering departments. The book was developed to fulfill ABET/AICHE requirements on environment, health and safety.

The book provides a comprehensive overview and introduction to environmentally preferable, or “green” approaches in the design and development of chemical processes and products for both engineering students and practitioners. It covers basic pollution prevention and waste minimization techniques, while emphasizing the environmental risks that must be considered in the design of chemical process and products. Green Engineering: Environmentally Conscious Design of Chemical Processes is also the complete professional's guide to cost-effective design, commercialization, and use of chemical processes that minimize pollution at the source, thus reducing the impact on health and the environment.

Product description

From the Back Cover

A chemical engineer's guide to managing and minimizing environmental impact.

Chemical processes are invaluable to modern society, yet they generate substantial quantities of wastes and emissions, and safely managing these wastes costs tens of millions of dollars annually. Green Engineering is a complete professional's guide to the cost-effective design, commercialization, and use of chemical processes in ways that minimize pollution at the source, and reduce impact on health and the environment. This book also offers powerful new insights into environmental risk-based considerations in design of processes and products.

First conceived by the staff of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Green Engineering draws on contributions from many leaders in the field and introduces advanced risk-based techniques including some currently in use at the EPA. Coverage includes:

  • Engineering chemical processes, products, and systems to reduce environmental impacts
  • Approaches for evaluating emissions and hazards of chemicals and processes
  • Defining effective environmental performance targets
  • Advanced approaches and tools for evaluating environmental fate
  • Early-stage design and development techniques that minimize costs and environmental impacts
  • In-depth coverage of unit operation and flowsheet analysis
  • The economics of environmental improvement projects
  • Integration of chemical processes with other material processing operations
  • Lifecycle assessments: beyond the boundaries of the plant

Increasingly, chemical engineers are faced with the challenge of integrating environmental objectives into design decisions. Green Engineering gives them the technical tools they need to do so.

4.0 out of 5 stars moderately over priced text

A bit of a quandary: needed for class, but disagree with the premise that CO2 is all man caused. It is not. Even at less than 0.03 percent of the atmosphere, the oceans stabilize the concentration better than sequestration. THE text DOES introduce proper stewardship of resources by renaming the term "sustainability."

This isn't a review on the book itself but the condition it came in. I ordered a new book, and it is indeed new. But I don't think anyone cracked the book open. It is bound on the wrong side, making reading very awkward. AND the cover is on upside down. Manufacturing defects. Thanks a lot, Amazon.com. Good job...
