    Amazing book
  • Dhirendra
5.0 out of 5 stars The best book for SOM/MOS/MOS. No other book can match it.
Reviewed in India on 14 October 2017

Absolutely amazing book. I purchased it for Rs. 350 (book price) + 60(shipping charges)= Rs. 410 (total). When I read it, I found it to be the best among all the books of SOM/MOM/MOS.

    Pros-
    1. The binding of the book is good.
    2. The pages are of extremely good quality.
    3. The printing is great.
    4. The font size is big.
    5. The book contains all the topics. Nothing has been left.
    6. Every chapter contains a huge number of solved examples. Moreover, the examples are explained really well. This strengthens the concepts further in your mind.
    7. A huge number of unsolved questions and numerical problems are there in this book to strengthen your level of understanding of the concepts.
    8. After the numerical and conventional problems, objective questions have also been provided which will help in making your concepts stronger.
    9. The figures used are like real life situations. So the students will understand the practical usage and application of the knowledge that they are getting here in this book and subject.
    10. SI units are used which make this book more useful for Indian students.
    11. Its biggest attraction is its theory and explanations. Every concept has been explained in great detail. I don't think any other book can give you such a great theory for explaining the concepts.

    Cons-
    1. The book is very thick. So if you couldn't read it with care, the back of the book will break.
    2. The book is somewhat costly. It doesn't go below 650 rupees generally (very low discount).

Final comment- If you are planning to purchase a book for SOM/MOM/MOS, purchase this book. No other book can match this one book. I have read SOM through around 6 books. Gere & Timoshenko, U.C. Jindal, Ramamrutham, Hibbeler, L.S. Negi, E.Popov, no one can match this Gere & Goodno book. This is the best book for SOM/MOM/MOS at present.
I prepared SOM from it and once I completed this, I couldn't find any difficulty in even a single problem of GATE, IES and IAS mains examinations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Contents of the book is great. But poor packaging spoiled the day.

One star for poor service and packaging. Five star for content. When it comes to the contents of the book, it is superb. Primary author James M. Gere is actually a co-author in earlier versions of the book along with Stephen Timoshenko, who himself is a pioneer in this field of engineering. Concepts are explained in detail. Only a subtle mind such as Gere can explain concepts in such a way that one can grasp the concepts so easily. Real world problems posed in the exercises give learners an edge to apply theory learned in the text.
