It's a good subject but it's incredibly difficult, you really need to have learnt French before or have a good grip of the language to do well in it. Although enjoyable, I found it frustrating and tiring. Having said that, French IB is even harder so this seems simple in comparison.

They say it is for beginners but it really does move VERY fast. I recommend you get the textbook and work through it in the holidays before Semester 1 starts or you will be left behind, especially when it comes to the last module of the semester. Also download duolingo and use that every day as it is a great way to pick up on words. The subject lacks student support and the tutors I dealt with tended to be petty and political with students, picking favourites and directing the lesson to them and ignoring the other students. The iLrn program they use for lab is awful, buggy, constantly crashing, and just plain irritating. Do what you have to do for marking and leave the rest if you don't find it useful - there are plenty of other free websites that do what iLrn attempts to do but better. Lab is a joke anyway because the tutor ignores you the whole time and you do everything on a website that you have to pay extra for anyway. You have to be pretty determined to pour hours every day into the subject if you intend to succeed, so best to be prepared early.
