I don’t know if this unit changed because of COVID but it just have because I have no idea how anyone could rate this unit anything more than maybe 2 stars. For starters there were entire weeks of content that were never used and never assessed. You could literally skip entire weeks of this unit without ANY repercussions which sucks for anyone who wants to learn and get there moneys worth from this unit. The first 4 weeks of content accounted for literally over 75% of the overall grade for this unit. Weeks 5-12? Practically useless. FEEDBACK FROM OTHER STUDENTS DOES NOT COUNT AS FEEDBACK. My first time receiving feedback on my work in this unit from a tutor was on my assignment that was worth 40% of my grade which is so unfair. I understood the feedback and improved in my work but because the first assignment was worth 40%, my final grade wasn’t reflective of my ability or understanding. Tutors are unhelpful. Assignment expectations aren’t clear. I have literally nothing positive to say about this unit.

First four weeks is purely report writing and referencing, then jumped into some health content? Was not straight forward with the learning outcomes as it felt like two units in one. Report writing are necessary skills for university students however, I do think this would be better suited to a module to be taken before the semester starts. Heard that the marking for the very first assignment was incredibly harsh and most of it was based on citing and referencing. Marked based on how many mistakes were made rather than the variation of mistakes (for this being the first assignment with such an emphasis on citing and referencing, it did not seem fair that someone who may have made the same mistake consistently because they thought that was the correct structure is incredibly harsh). The unit was taken online due to COVID with a huge class size. Not interactive or engaging at all. Very dry content. Our second assessment results were not released prior to the exam date, so we went into the exam unsure of if we had improved greatly from our initial assessment described above.

I think this unit will be different for everyone. At least with people I’ve spoken with, the content is not particularly enjoyable every week. Hopefully you will be put in a cooperative and sociable group. I was put into an okay group; we talked to each other respectfully and could take a couple of jokes. Unfortunately our conversations didn’t really go beyond class work and asking each other about other units. Sometimes you need to take the initiative and be the first one to start conversation, but this really depends on the type of person you are (no pressure). If you went into this course not expecting to be working in teams, then I’m afraid to tell you but you will be working with other people.

The group project isn’t great, because you can do brilliantly but get a bad mark if your group is below par, which is super unfair. The workshops were quite boring (but we don’t go to uni to be entertained so I get it), and they nearly always ran overtime. The content is quite relevant to our future careers and it’s good we learn how to reference.

Very basic unit but essential when being introduced to university life. Would be great to have a class just with mature age students.

I thought this subject was very beneficial in being taught the requirements of paraphrasing, referencing and writing academically in general for future subjects. In regards to other course content, I felt that the information given on the online presentations was very light on. Due to this reason I found it hard to prepare for the exam.

Final exam was difficult to study for by all students because the content was unclear. Spent most of the semester doing assessments that had very little relation to the exam which made it quite difficult. Classes were long and a little boring compared to my others.

Very good first year basic unit! Can be challenging if you skip class or forget to complete online activities - but very useful for assignments and general university support. Tutors are great!

The unit is really useful as it provides the basic foundation to a health-major-specific essay writing, as well as reflective writing. The essay and reflective writing might sounds easy to be done, but it's actually really challenging and done differently than what we've been taught. Overall, it's an essential unit, however I was assigned into a biased tutor, making this unit slightly unenjoyable.
