This unit is what I call "easy to pass, but hard to do well in". It's got a low skill floor, and a very high skill ceiling - I did it as an elective, but I'm aware it's a core unit for many education students. Couldn't recommend it highly enough, it gave me a totally new perspective on literature/media as a whole. The lecturer (Kristine) was fantastic and gave lots of context for each week's topic. The tutorials were great too, but a lot of people in my class did not read the books each week, which meant it was really hard to have any sort of group discussion. Definitely read the books before your tutorial, or else you basically get nothing out of it, and are better off not showing up at all tbh. 4/5 stars, docked one star only because I think that there were things in narrative theory and language analysis that was presumed knowledge and I only discovered in the PASS sessions, not the lectures or the tutes. Highly recommend the PASS sessions for this unit btw.

There is no rubric for this class, so it makes it difficult to understand what the tutors are looking for from assignments.

This unit is incredibly fun. The texts that you study are interesting and enjoyable (a rarity when it comes to books you have to read for study), and the teachers are amazing.
