Was an okay unit, however there were some negatives with the teaching of the unit. Firstly, the lack of technology inclusion by my tutor was extremely detrimental to my learning as I prefer typing notes rather than writing so I can have them all in one location. Secondly, my tutor did not go through any slides in the seminars, and waffled on about nothing that related to the concepts we were learning at all. The unit chair consistently made changes to the assessment task detail the day prior to its due date, which is quite frustrating, especially when you've already completed your assignment to the original standard. Would not say this is a great starting point for learning Sociology at all.

I really enjoyed this subject. The modular approach meant that you really got a taste of sociology - exactly what you want at a first level subject. There are a lot of assessments to keep an eye on - I found this quite helpful, as it ensured I didn't get behind and have to catch up. There's not a huge amount of reading for this one, but you really do need to make sure you read everything thoroughly, as the multiple choice section of the exam was very much about the details of the readings. I liked the breadth of subject matter allowed in the major essay, it really allowed students the space to write on just about anything they had found interesting through the trimester.

If you appoach this unit with an anti-feminist perspective then you should probably just drop the unit entirely and take your MRA butt elsewhere since you obviously don't understand sociological discourse at all.

The lecturers tirades on gender and feminism get dull after the first time and it clouds her perspectives on the social in general and I found that while doing the unit I wrote with a highly developed feminist critique of the social AND I'M A MALE!

the questions in the exam barely come from the tutorials or the lectures
