While the unit title refers to communicating in an IT Environment, the skills taught (or rather learnt, with the emphasis on self managed learning) relate to all fields of academic learning. Stemming from reports from industry that incoming graduates were lacking in their communication skills, this course was devised as a first year unit to use the environment the student is in (starting academic study) as a context for learning skills of communication, with the hope that these skills would translate to more effective communication skills for future graduates.
