This unit was great with detailed lecture notes and good quality tutorial recordings. Exam was open book and you could take in your own notes. It is highly recommended to buy the 4th edition of the AGLC (latest edition) law referencing guide. Will be using that book throughout my law degree. This unit is easy marks if you keep up with the lectures/tutorials each week. I got an easy Distinction for this unit.

I did this subject in online mode. I found it very unhelpful. I did not really learn anything from this subject.

Oh my this was great unit to attend. I enjoyed the clear plain language used and the encouragement to use simple plain English. However, this was in direct conflict to legal process. The lecture summaries were easy to follow. HOWEVER... The reason for the 3 stars was that the sample answers apparently were not the best way to answer a question. So for me a new person to law I found it difficult to fully grasp what was required. The research side was brilliantly presented and easy to understand. But the legal writing formats (not AGLC) was not shown in the manner that would equate to 'if you don't do it this way you will lose 15 marks'. So overall pay particular attention to the format.

This initial law unit is a great introduction and a really good way to learn and practice research and writing skills for the legal profession. You will be introduced to various legal databases and how to navigate through articles, journals, reviews and cases. The assessment component allows you to practice researching to find sources and to critically review legislation. All in all, a great unit.
