I did not feel that the semester 1 introductory anatomy topic prepared us for this topic. Some assignments were marked by the lecturer and others by unknown markers, leading to inconsistencies and confusing grading methods. I don't know how credible this is but I heard that almost 40% of the class failed the end-of-semester practical exam. From a distinction in semester 1 introduction to anatomy and physiology to such a low grade for this topic, I'm shocked (to say the least) that that the amount of time/effort invested in this, which was about 10 times that of semester one, was not rewarded. Learning about the eye and ear muscles/nerves are important when assessing nerve damage, etc. but I don't feel we needed to go into this much detail. Overall, I think the lecturers/tutors should definitely introduce changes by reviewing student feedback of the topic and making it more relevant to speech pathology as opposed to anatomy in general. Older speech pathology graduates said they didn't need to know so much about the overall anatomy of the body.
