In this subject students will develop the foundation knowledge for working with individuals in health and human services settings. Students will learn how particular characteristics and actions of an individual impact on health and welfare outcomes. Students will be: (i) presented with frameworks, including a developmental perspective, for understanding how the characteristics and actions of individuals impact on health outcomes; (ii) provided with foundation knowledge for understanding how individuals present in, and progress through, health settings; and (iii) reviewing theoretical approaches to producing individual change in health and wellbeing settings.

PHE1IDH is a useful subject for students that are doing nursing, social and psychology as the content overlaps into these disciplines. This subject is very easy to get high marks if you follow the marking criteria and consult with your tutor, although can be difficult if you do not keep up with the weekly one session tutorials (do the content beforehand) and ask questions if you are unsure!

It's a subject that for the first half of the semester, everyone goes to. But then after that, no one bothers. It is pure psychological content - if you don't like psychology, don't do it. If you did psych in Year 12, you will be fine. Assignments weren't too bad, and the online quizzes were fine. But it wasn't THAT engaging.

A subject with content that is interesting and useful. However, it is difficult to score without consults.

This subject was definitely the subject that I hated the most out of my first year Semester 1 subjects. The content was basically a lot of psychological theories and approaches to dealing with patients. I learnt the content just from watching the videos provided. The readings were very extensive (sometimes 50 pages of a textbook with small font) and unnecessary and the facilitator I had was just reading off powerpoints to teach us. The lessons was an absolute waste of time as their was no new content or engagement with others apart from group work. Attendance did not contribute to your overall grade however I attended them. Overall I would not recommend this subject.

Loved this subject! Content was interesting and the assessment tasks were straightforward and fun to work through. The subject was engaging and all around great!

The content of the subject was actually quite interesting. As a core first year health/applied science subject, it was actually pretty good.

Favourite first year health subject so far. Loved the lectures and the content we had to learn. Also loved how the assessment tasks changed around. Was easy to study for both the assessments and the exam.
