There's not a lot of content involved. You learn science skills that you will find useful for other bio and science related units.

Unfortunately for everyone doing a biology/paeleo major, this unit is compulsory. It isn't run very well and even many of the staff disagree that the unit should even exist! However, it provides a good introduction to lab-based skills which will serve you throughout your degree. Some people love them, some hate them, but they are what you make them.

I did this unit as the "guinea pig" cohort when it was just introduced. Incredibly unorganised and most of the content has no relation, sort of seems as if they threw a bunch of random topics and skills together last minute. Mostly useless or common sense stuff. Admittedly, the pipetting skills learnt are valuable for 2nd year CBMS units and practical exams though.

It's a good course because there aren't any lectures. It's relatively easy, except for the amount of work due each week (watching videos for the pre-prac quizzes and completing the pracbooks). Tutorials are extremely boring, and practicals can sometimes be fun.

Useful. Not a challenging unit at all.

Easy but uninteresting unit. Lectures weren't necessarily important as the unit was practical based, the info on the slides was more of background knowledge. Tutorials were sometimes pointless. Follow the instructions in the practicals and you'll do well.

Unnecessary course - lectures are pointless, tutorial material is boring, practicals are the only interesting part of this unit. Disorganised unit staff and tutors. Highly recommend staying away from this unit if you can!
