Reviews

if you are lucky enough to be able to choose between this capstone unit and another, DONT DO THIS UNIT

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2019

Horrendous unit. Genuinely made me despise my last semester of university. The only useful thing I learnt during the semester was from the Careers and Employment Service (an external source). Unrealistic deadlines, way too many assignments (almost one per week - and not small assignments either), extremely unclear criteria (you're essentially going in blind). Many of the assignments were completely pointless (e.g. making a vlog (essentially a small documentary) and being graded on the quality not just the scientific content - we're not media students!) The below review is correct in that they treat you like children and often behave in a very condescending way. The unit convener does not take feedback and was very condescending when students tried to provide feedback. Not qualified to be giving feedback on half of the assignments. 100/100 would not recommend if not required.

The convenor and tutor that took over in 2016 were useless, uninteresting and at times nasty. They treat students as if they are 14 years old and make extremely personal comments on assignments. Its not an environment conducive to learning. The assignments and lecture material are all based around getting a job, the "biology" part of the course is relatively nonexistent. Pretty sad for a capstone unit.
