This unit is simple enough, however it is a lot of work to get the marks. The unit has 10 weekly submissions, 3 quizzes, 3 assignments and a final. You never seem to catch a break. It is an unreasonable amount of work for 1 unit. I would not recommend.

The amount of work you need to do for this unit is insane. There's 3 assignments, 11 weekly submission of which you have to spend more than a couple of hours with and that you'd automatically fail the unit if you miss at least 2, and on top of that 3 quizzes, and at the end, still a final exam. DONT take this as an elective, the only reason I did this is because it's in my core unit and I have to. It's impossible to do this unit while having a life outside of it which most of us do.

Fantastic unit, and really well-organized. Compared to COMP1000, the number of resources, practice questions, and support sessions are incredible. Gaurav, as a convenor and lecturer, is the best I have come across in my 2 years at university. The lecture notes and clear explanation in the lectures really helps. I highly encourage everyone to attend Gaurav's lectures. They make everything else so much easier. Yes, there is hard work involved, but it is consistent with the learning outcomes and prepares you so well for the second-year units. The support for international students, working students, parents is unparalleled. The change of class worked brilliantly. 10/10

I found this subject the most difficult unit I've done so far, harder than 2nd year units. The best advice I can give you is to watch the lectures, attend classes, do the weekly submissions and go to the support sessions if you are stuck. This unit wants everyone to know how to problem solve by themselves. Most people can pass this unit, however do not cheat/copy other peoples work or Gaurav will catch you. In my personal opinion this unit was extremely stressful and it didn't feel like a 1st year unit.

Gaurav is a great lecturer and explains things very clearly. Getting a CR is easy but there is a large difficulty spike to earn the D or HD grade so make sure you start your assignments early if you want higher marks. (The ilearn forums and MACS discord are very active so if you need help go there)

A well-paced unit introducing some of the most fundamental concepts that programmers should know, including sort and search algorithms, recursion, and linked lists. More challenging than COMP1000 but still relatively easy if you keep up-to-date with lectures and practicals. (Note: I did this unit as COMP125 in 2016 S2. StudentVIP doesn't let me select this.)

A bit more challenging than COMP1000 but provides students with necessary knowledge for second-year computing units
