Very heavy unit with lots of bland content but the group assignments/presentations were pretty easy. Exams are marked pretty harshly

Bad theory, good lecturer

A very DENSE unit with large topics towards the end (I found myself trying to wrap my head around the last few topics). Each week builds upon the previous, so keep up to date and you won’t find this unit difficult. The unit really helped me understand economics in more depth (I hated first yr econ but enjoyed this one). Dr Wang ran the lectures which made things really interesting - he draws on recent world phenomenons which really helps. Good luck with the unit! Definitely the most interesting 2nd year unit I’ve done in my studies. Difficult, but doable.

This was my favourite subject I ever took at University. The course is taught by the same person who writes the textbook (Jeffrey Sheen) and the content of this course is very interesting. The workload is quite high. I recommend picking up a copy of the textbook and keeping up with the readings each week because this course is a difficult one to cram, and is only satisfying if you understand the concepts deeply. Also, attend tutorials as they mainly comprise of problem solving activities.

Very slow unit. Very dull and boring. It feels as though the lecturers are not interested in making the course interesting. The unit is pretty much teach yourself from the textbook. If it weren’t compulsory for me, I would have steered clear, VERY clear.

More mathematical focus. Contents are somewhat similar to the first-year macroeconomics course.

Subject is interesting but lectures are boring

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2017

Textbook is quite helpful. As with other macro topics, understanding graphs is important. It is easy to relate because examples are practical (all real life). Have a bit of math but no big deal if your algebra is decent.

Simply dont go to the lecture. It NEVER cover everything that u need. Just borrow the book in lib and read every pages carefully! You cant just rely on lecture notes And lastly, do post paper, They usually look really alike.

interesting and connections to real life examples are made. An ambitious program and fairly fast paced.
