Reviews
An abysmal unit. Lectures and practicals felt like 2 different courses. Marking of the quizzes were poorly managed, with feedback for the second released less than a week before the final exam. Practical content was useful, teaching basic Excel skills and Access. Lectures glanced over the content (excessive in and of itself) leaving out large areas assessed in the final exam. Strongly recommend avoiding lectures and using lecture slides to make own notes for the two quizzes, which can be reused for revision in the final.

Basically agree with previous one-star review. Lots and lots of raw memorising, with little application. Lectures and practicals have virtually no connection in terms of content. Would not recommend attending lectures, instead making flashcards/notes out of lecture slides and consistently review them. Textbook is necessary to fill in gaps left by lectures.

This unit was a joke. While the practical classes were actually pretty good, teaching useful skills in Excel and Microsoft Access, the lecture content was just a complete waste of time - basically, in order to pass the exams, you’re required to rote memorize huge amounts of dry theory with zero practical application. Seriously, there’s not a single moment in the course where you’re expected to actually practically apply any of the lists and buzzwords that you're memorizing. In addition, the lecture slides were literally made by the people who make the textbook - the convenor doesn’t even bother to make their own slides. And they of course just pretty much repeated what was in the textbook.

This subject may be challenging if you are not undertaking an IT or computing related degree, however, the content is not hard to learn and the technical skills taught are very useful such as skills in microsoft excel and microsoft access. Overall, there is a lot of content, however, the main concepts are easy to grasp. It becomes extremely easy if you stay on top of your work.

Easy and fun practicals- theory+lectures are pretty boring but overall good unit.

For a non IT student this is was a painful unit not because of hard content, but because of absolutely boring and crap lecturers (unless you have Matt mansour- which case DO THIS SUBJECT). pracs are also very quick so if u r not good at IT. make sure u record all the excell and access instruction tutorials during pracs.

This wasn't a bad unit, the material was pretty simple and straight forward.

Practical content was fairly simple, theory component looks like it's a lot, but it really isn't bad at all.
