Property is one of the hardest units you'll take of the priestley 11. I had David as convenor and then Teresa took over when he fell ill. Contrary to other's ratings on David, I did like him a lot better in property than in busorgs. The assignments were split, 40% on an essay and 60% on a take-home exam. The key thing to note with convenors like David is to really write about what you think about the law, provided your arguments are well evidenced. He doesn't appreciate regurgitation of textbooks, especially when it comes to the theoretical side of law. I followed the essay rubric completely and thanks to Teresa who was very helpful with hypotheticals and went above and beyond with exam prep, I got a HD for this unit. The exam though a take-home was tough. A study group is a MUST for this unit if you want to keep up on readings and tutorial questions.

Terresa was an amazing convenor. David however, was hopeless. No lecture slides and his explanation of the topic of that week was so confusingly structured. The essay was based soley on theory which was ridiculous. Very difficult to get a good mark when you spend one week on basic theory and then have a weirdly worded essay question worth 40% only on theory. Frustrating subject area that could have been better run.

Looking back on past reviews, this subject was favourably rated in part due to Shayne being the covenor. Unfortunately, this semester, the subject was co-covened by David which started the semester off to a difficult start as a result of his poor lecture style technique and communication, lack of slides and uploading of slides and minimal communication with students on ilearn. The decision to have only two assessments: 40% 1000-word research essay on theories of property law and a 60% final exam was a poor choice. The essay question was difficult to answer and the markers were harsh in their evaluation. It took over 2 months to receive marks back for the essays, and most people had generic comments which had been copied and pasted from the rubric which was of no help in understanding where to improve. The final exam: Very tricky and the word limit of 2000 words was frankly too restrictive for the number of issues existent in the lengthy hypothetical questions. The only benefit was that it was a take-home exam. We were all so glad and lucky when David fell sick during the semester and was taken off lecture duty. Things thankfully picked up when Teresa Somes replaced him bringing greater organisation and teaching to the course.

LOVE this subject. So interesting and logical. I actually enjoying writing up my notes for this one! Had Shayne as a tutor, which really helped make everything clear.

Shayne was one of the best lecturers I've ever had. The readings can be a little hard to wade through, but make sure you keep up to date with them. I found her lectures a little hard to follow sometimes, but she really was an engaging lecturer. Her jokes are amusing too! Try to go to her tutorials too - she likes to help you by giving you checklists of the things that you're looking for when solving problem questions, and those were very helpful.

Content is hard, but the lecturer makes it well worth it. She is extremely pragmatic in her approach to all topics, and delivers interesting lectures with funny subtle jokes.

Shayne is absolutely amazing, and delivers her lectures in a way that is entertaining so you remember the content. Lots of reading to get through, but they are interesting so not too tedious. Absolutely one of the best (and my favourite) lecturers/tutors at Macquarie.

Best lecturer of any law unit I've taken so far. She is clear, current and you'll even find yourself giggling to her jokes in some lectures. She ensures the content is kept interesting by being up to date with contemporary cases. 2 hour lectures always sound so daunting - but these are well worth your time!

The lecturer is really amazing. She really knows her stuff and is perhaps one of the best lecturers anyone could learn from.
