The lecturers were engaging and very approachable, I think I had conversations with them after each lecture. Due to it being an introduction to the entire field of linguistics there were quite a few assignments but I enjoyed all of them. This unit really assisted in giving a core understanding that I applied in future units. Even if you are not taking further linguistics units this unit will really open your mind to how language works and allows you to consider many things that previously would have been invisible to you. The best tip for success in this unit is to do the homework before you go to the tutorials.

Best unit I've done in my degree so far! The lecturers are fantastic and approachable, and are always willing to help! Concepts were explained really well!

Really interesting unit but hard to do well because there were a lot of assessments which were marked kinda harshly and worth a lot

I personally really loved this unit. If you're a fan of phonetics and all things language then you'll find this really enjoyable. There are a number of assessments that you'll want to get good marks for so you're in a good place to sit the exam which is short answer and quite broad. Keep up to date with your weekly homework tasks, ask questions and enjoy!

You can't not love anyone in linguistics. This unit was really fun and interesting. Paying close attention to your work before you submit assessments will ensure you have good marks. Also attending lectures or doing them when they come out is important because there are 2, 1 hour lectures per week so this will pile up quickly. The unit runs up through foundations so if you don't gradually build up your knowledge you're going to struggle. THIS IS REALLY WORTH THE EFFORT THOUGH AND ITS GREAT TO SEE SICK NICK~!!

A really interesting and enjoyable unit! You learn about many different areas of linguistics and all of the staff were great and made the lectures interesting. The assessment tasks were all pretty easy as long as you kept up to date and paid attention.
