Reviews

Its an Ok subject. Lectures are boring but I had a good tutor who kept me interested in the subject. Actively asking questions, based on real life marketing examples, etc. Assignment is challenging mainly Segmentation, Targeting and positioning part. Finals are also ok not too difficult or easy.

Worst marketing subject. Assignment was confusing, tutor could barely understand questions asked so would deflect with an 'answer' that he did know even if it was irrelevant. Don't let this unit set the bar for all MKTG units, however you do need to pass this one to move on! Try to get a tutor who can understand your questions and maybe its easier! Convenor is a current researcher and will insert his own (very advanced) studies into topics despite only having little relevance. He himself is knowledgeable, however perhaps not fit for teaching of an introductory unit.

Super easy and pretty fun unit, no idea what people are complaining about. The exam/assignment mark ratios are a little strange, but if you step up and play the game it's not hard to adjust to.

Did not enjoy a little. So much content and the assignments aren't explained very well. If you can avoid it, try. Good luck commerce students.

Although it was easy, there was quite of lot of concepts/models to memorise for the final exam. I did like how there was a focus providing examples from real businesses, so students could view the concepts/models in practice.

Course and department changes were a mistake. Assignment structure was absurd complemented with illogical marking and with the final exam proportioned quite unequally (A MULTIPLE CHOICE quiz worth 30% was one of them where 1 mark = 1% with content dissociated from the lectures). Tutorials were a waste of time. Would not recommend unless the department undergoes some serious changes. For an introductory course its far too harsh due to department choices compared to other subjects with substantially much more content.

Course needs a massive overhaul. Convener only brings something up if he can reference his own case study. Assignments lacked any type of thought. Really disappointed as I was looking forward to this subject.

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2018

The convener seemed unorganised, our tutorials were unrelated to the content we were taught, and overall the course was a waste of time. From my fellow classmates who had done this unit in the same semester versus previous semesters, it seems that they did a massive update to the course structure and it has been for the worse. 3 hour final exam with no explanation as to how to write the essays in the tutorial.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2017

Structure of the content is so messy and unorganised. The lecturer makes the content way more difficult than the textbook explains it (and the content is supposedly from the textbook). The portfolio was marked so harsh for this semester compared to previous semesters. The assignment structure is fair, and achievable. Tutorials are so boring and do not supplement content in any way. You sit there watching videos for an hour.

I really enjoy marketing as a subject so thought this was a great unit overall. Not a huge fan of the assessment structure - it's heavily group work based and marking is a bit arbitrary between tutors.
