Reviews

This unit was pretty good. It has very important and interesting content, but there's a lot of it! The staff were all very nice and very helpful and the tutorials were engaging. I hate doing literature reviews, but you get a few topics to choose from and there are a lot of angles you can take, even within each topic, so it's not too restrictive. As long as you make sure you understand the different theories, you'll do alright in the exam. It's less about memorising facts and more about applying the theories you've learned, which is a nice change to a lot of units that are based on rote-learning. Remembering specific theorists is a pain, though. As a lot of other people have said, it's not necessarily a unit you'll love, but you probably won't hate it either. It's a good middle ground, particularly when a lot of the other second-year psych units are a lot more disorganised.

Really interesting content. The unit convenor is really nice and engaging. There was so much content which does make it more difficult. I loved doing the literature review because I found the topic I choose (from the ones provided) super interesting. However, I HATED the exam even though I like to think I was prepared for it (it was super scenario based). This unit is an easy distinction if you are dedicated and don’t fall behind.

Fantastic unit. Lots of information but very easy to digest. Normally the assessment topics are covered in the coursework. The unit convenor is lovely and as long as you stick by the marking guidelines/ rubric for your assessment you should be fine. Make sure you make (or buy) notes that have practice questions in them as that's the best way to practice for the exam :)

A lot of information and but it is interesting so easy enough to keep up with it. The tutorials weren't very good - they were only every 2 weeks but everyone you were getting into groups and talking about new content with your peers - so they weren't teaching you anything (learning from peers - which isn't good if they have the incorrect understanding). The lectures were really interesting though and i loved how the lecturer would include her own personal stories which helping your understanding and remembering things. Highly recommend doing the prac exam they release!

Lots of content, but getting through it all is doable. The literature review has a lot of support in tutes and on iLearn, but make sure you leave enough time to read the literature and choose something you feel confident writing about.

Like a lot of psych courses, there was a lot of information to take in however the final exam is multiple choice. The actual content is interesting and very beneficial to know. Overall I didn't 'love' it but I did like it.

Very interesting but a bit difficult to study for, given the variety of theories taught and the application of these theories to 'real life' examples in an exam. High content but very easy to understand, and very interesting.

Talk about something that is NOT hard science... this is the unit... (along with personalities)... Anything can be pushed through as a theory having supporting evidence ---> if you find enough observations and studies to produce the data to support it via "replication"... You would not like it if you are only into HARD science. I, myself, is a bit of a outlier, so doing this subject and personalities are painful for me because I can't fully immerse in something that I cannot put my belief on --- not like something that are definite or almost definite like many aspects of physics, chemistry, biology and learning.

This is quite an interesting unit, although tutorials leave something to be desired..

overall enjoyable and interesting topics, even if some lectures are a bit boring. A lot of memorising work to do, but it's really fun to apply the theories to cases.
