A good follow up to PSYC104. You can expect the same level of content to keep up with (which you'll now be better equipped to handle). Don't let everyone bias your opinion about stats - it's not as freaky as it sounds. Just grab the core concepts which Alyssa emphasises really well and you'll be fine. We were given a lot of support with the research report, so as long as you follow the rubric and the checklist while using all the information they've provided - you'll be sweet. Lots of different areas to learn about to keep you engaged. You'll never know what pops up in the exam (and they can be worded a little strangely) so just be sure you're keeping up to date with readings and actually attending to the lectures so you're understanding the content.

The main course is everything good about 104, but better - interesting, relevant and easy to follow content. The stat lectures get a little rough but Alissa is great, and the often cringy memes add a human touch to a very boring subject area. Great unit!

The content is heavy but also very interesting. You get to learn about lots of different areas of psychology and some of the lectures were quite interactive which was nice. As long as you study regularly and don't fall behind, you should handle the content. I thought the statistics component would be hard and boring but it was the complete opposite. The statistics lecturer is AMAZING and she made the content interesting and easy to learn, with lots of revision lectures given. The research report was the most challenging part. This isn't really the unit's fault, it's just because it is, for most people, the first report we've ever written and so it is inherently difficult. They are very picky with the APA formatting. However, a lot of the practicals focus on how to write the report so it's not like they throw you in the deep end. It's just important to start it early and edit it a lot!! Most of the practicals were quite boring though, especially after the research report was due.

This unit is some very heavy content. If you're going to do this course make sure you really do everything you can to get any marks (eg. research participation 5%, top hat quizzes/statistics 10%) because this unit is sure to scare even the most confident. The topics are really interesting but require a lot of work out of your own time through readings and online quizzes. The research essay is difficult as you really have to pay close attention to the assessment criteria and the practicals which seem pretty boring and a waste of time. The final exam is also very sporadic so if you can really know the subject inside out you should be fine otherwise say sayonaraaaaaaa to your GPA!!!

This unit has lots of interesting material but is very content heavy. Stats in particular is not very well taught so constant revision is necessary to do well. The research essay is also difficult and not enough information was given regarding how to do well in this task.

The year I took it the convener boasted on her Facebook about the high fail rate of the course, My hope is the unit is now run by someone who wants you to succeed. As it was, the information was communicated so poorly that even the tutors seemed lost. Assessment 2015: Research Report (35%, very high fail rate), Group presentation (2 week preparation time), Multiple choice exam (50%). Tips: Study every day. Make a study group. You have to pass this unit to continue with Psychology at MQU. With a Statistics stream running in tandem, you will cover: Health Psychology, Social Psychology, Perception, Organisational Psychology, Cognition, Language, and Developmental Psychology.

Alyssa made stats actually bearable! I have failed every maths exam in my life and struggled initially but ended up getting a credit in this section of the unit. The 5% group assignment was way too much work for 5%.

Great subject for anyone taking Psychology. This is a core unit and so it is compulsory, but it provides great foundations for future years of study!

i really loved this unit, I found it so interesting!! theres a lot of information that you need to know and a lot that you have to do in your own time (stat lectures, revision of content in lectures). The fact that you don't go over the content from lectures in pracs really sucks (and makes it seem that pracs are a waste of time, they're only useful for research report) but other then that i really liked the unit.

It was interesting. The statistics sector was pretty hard. Tutorials were mostly a waste of time. 2 hours every week wasted on 'how to research' etc that can be covered in one class. I don't recommend this unit. Do psyc104 if you're choosing between them.
