I did this unit back in Monash College and with my favorite lecturer, Haidar, I was able to understand and enjoy the unit well. I got an HD thanks to the good explanation from the teacher and from my hard work as well.

Reading previous reviews has made me want to update everyone about this unit, lectures have not changed at all. He still speaks super fast and summarises key concepts too quickly. Secondly, the way they explain and teach MARIE coding is actually a joke. Repeating the same phrase twice and expecting students to just get it is not teaching. The Labs go through simple MARIE and the assignment is literally 10 times harder. Just as a reference, I got a HD in java (FIT1051), and still struggle to grasp what the lecturers and coordinators are teaching. Overall, there is an issue with a unit when a student has to go to non-university education sources such as youtube, etc to get help because other people are better at explaining. If there is too much content to be able to speak in a normal fashion; remove some content?

Bruh lecturer has no chill. Also can the lecturer not go 30 mins overtime on every lecture.

Does this lecturer every actually stop to take a breath? or maybe consider the fact his incoherent ramblings do not make sense? I had an enjoyable time taking a mental note of how the attendance rate dropped each lecture. By the 10th week there was a mere 20 students left in the lecture halls. A lot of this unit has very interesting content. The assignments were engaging and interesting and tutorial material was fun. There is a lot to like here but this lecturer, with his packed lecture slides sets an incredibly low bar. I'd love to see him properly audited by Monash because i can almost guarantee, he does not meet any standards of this university. There was even a screencap of one of his interactions with a student going around Monashs Stalkerspace where he demanded a public response in less than 2 minutes on the moodle forum. A confusing man, but interesting content if you ignore him and learn about it your own way.

Fantastic unit. Teaches the basics of how computer technologies work, with a fine balance between calculation, theories, and practical implementations. The understanding of how a computer works and understanding basic assembly language is definitely a framework in understanding the deeper concepts later explored in the second-year and third-year units. The classes, especially the lab sessions are filled to the brim with content to explore, with plenty of materials to go through if you are ahead of your peers. This unit might pack a challenge for people who are still unfamiliar with some IT concepts, but these challenges are the ones that could be solved by talking to peers or the tutor, and keeping up with all the weekly expectations.

Great unit for those wanting to understand modern computing technologies. It is heavily focused on theory with lots of content and knowledge to remember and know well. There is need to perform calculations but only is required for a small portion of the course and this must be done by hand. Assessments are feasible and are able to be done but can be vague in explanation but the forum aids in answering and asking questions. This is a core unit and needs to be completed as part of the IT degree. Advice that you should remember is to keep up-to-date with the content and to make sure you revise every so often as there is much content covered.
