Seems like things haven't changed since 2023. I'm in my final semester and it's the worst unit I've taken so far. Did ML and NLP which were hard but at least I learnt something useful. Here, it's useless content where they just show you bad examples of maps and say don't do this. The only good thing in this unit was allowing us to pick our own data research topic. It's locked down in R so no python. You do learn how to work with geographical data and shapefiles but a youtube tutorial does it much better. Skip if you can.

Useless unit with an absurb workload. Workshops are a complete waste of time to attend as they don't actually teach you anything. Instead it's two hours of the lecturer showing graphs they didn't like and then forcing you to do pointless groupwork. Tutorials aren't much better however some are compulsary to attend. You'll have assignments and quizzes due every single week which is just a stupid amount of assessment compared to other units. And the content is either completely pointless content being covered, or it's already covered multiple times in other units. Overall, just a horrible and pointless unit to get through.
