This was a relatively easy science unit. I have done second year units across Physiology, Biochemistry and Developmental Biology and can confidently say this was the easiest out of those that I've done. There are 2 lectures a week, usually about 1-1.5 hours in total. Additionally, there's are theme quizzes you have to do every 2 weeks, but plenty of resources are given to prime you for the quiz, from consolidation questions (with answers) after every lecture, to consolidation activities aiming to substantiate your understand of the past 2-3 lectures. The lab content is also tested in these quizzes, so if you pay attention and have basic understanding of the lectures and labs then you're pretty much guaranteed to do well. The final exam is also extremely doable. This year, it consisted of a bunch of multi-part short answer questions but you're given a 24 hour window. If you've created notes during the semester (which you probably had for the theme quizzes), then that would take off some stress when studying for final exams. Best part about this unit is that they genuinely want you to do well so the questions aren't some abstract/ hard to interpret sort of questions. They test you on your understanding and ability to interpret what you've learnt. Highlight of the unit is the animation project, where you can choose your own project topic and then are given approx. 7 weeks to do. Partners are randomly allocated. LUCKILY I was allocated to the an absolute champ who shared a similar work ethic to myself. Don't use animaker if you're considering that to create your video unless you want to pay 50 bucks to download the video when you're finished. Anyway, animation projects were marked nicely, given you put a good amount of effort in. I wouldn't say the lecture was content was interesting, but it was just very easy to digest. Importantly, all teaching staff were extremely nice.

Amazing unit, the TA's are so helpful and coordinator was so supportive. Lectures were comprehensive and well structured and assessments were all fairly marked ! The only downside to this unit is if you get assigned to a bad partner for the animation project which is worth 20% of your grade.

Just enrol in the subject already. The labs are educational but also fun and easy at the same time. My TA (Serena) for the semester was very helpful and you can tell that she genuinely wants you to do well in the subject. I had a blast working on the animation project with a unit mate too. Hands down the best subject I've taken in Monash so far.

This was a really interesting unit! Pracs were great (even online) and Danni the practical coordinator is incredible. I found the lectures to be quite unstructured and often boring as lecturers just read off the slides, so I preferred to use the textbook to learn about each topic, and look over the slides to make sure I'd covered everything. The animation project was fairly easy, and marked very leniently. The exam is only worth 30%, and isn't too hard.

Great subject full of useful information without being too difficult at all.

An easy unit with regards to in semester grades, I felt the TAs marked very leniently. The animation project was pretty scary, but it was marked very fairly for those of us who are terrible at art. Helen's lectures were the most well structured but Francine's are very interesting (but could do with better structure). Danni is the practical coordinator and she does an amazing job organising pracs, they run on time and are very well structured with interactive pre-pracs. A good unit overall.

Good unit, easy for a third year student majoring in dev. Animation project is the big assessment but the markers are lenient so it’s enjoyable. Easy unit except the last five lectures given by saw-hoon who just reads off the slides. But otherwise, a great unit to do as an elective.
