Reviews

The unit is extremely well organised but does falter in the later weeks for the laboratories. The amount of resources made available to the students is endless and gives every student the opportunity to do well in this unit. BUT if you need help understanding an answer in the practice quizzes, Ramesh doesn't give much clarification so it becomes a memorisation task rather than learning. Some quirks about Ramesh include how you should address and sign off in emails and forum posts, the timing of your emails and forum posts (must be between 9-5), and an off-putting attitude although he is funny at times. Because the assignments are broken down into 5-15% tasks, you will need to do quite a bit of work each week yourself to succeed – not compulsory though. The workshops were unexpectedly not as helpful because a lot of the tasks did not come with answers so if they aren't checked over by your TA you'll be in the dark since they are not available to check your answers after the workshop. Ultimately, a somewhat interesting subject where you can easily get a HD (if you try).

This unit is pretty well run and super manageable. Ramesh, is really good at what he does and is pretty nice most of the time. The content is okay, not super interesting, but not completely dry either. The labs are really well run and the TAs really care about you and want you to do well. All in all, this unit seems to be better than some of the other second year science units as far as how manageable it is.

Ramesh's lectures were super organised which made the unit really easy to follow. Labs were super easy, and the quizzes that follow them are definitely easy to do well in if you do the lab work. The TAs were really good, happy to answer any questions you have and seem to really want you to do well. Ramesh can be really passive aggressive in emails though, so maybe don't ask him a question as your first point of call because he'll roast you in the public forum. He does send out personal emails when you do well which is nice, and seems to really care about all his students. Also yes he has a photographic memory and will surprise you when you show up to the first workshop and he already knows your name (was so confused the first time this happened).

pretty good subject! I love how passionate Ramesh is about teaching, you can tell he actually wants his students to do well. He gives good interesting, clear lectures. I only rated it low because I don't really enjoy physiology but was forced to do it in my course. Most assessments really good, lots of chances to put your grade up even if you do bad on some. Some online quizzes were quite difficult though (too many questions not enough time lol). You dont need the textbook, just focus on Ramesh's lectures and notes and plan your time to complete all assessments to best of your ability.

This is the best unit I have ever done mostly due to the lecturer and the structure. Within the first week Ramesh has memorised every students name. He sends personal emails when you achieve great marks and also emails class rankings to those achieving in the top ranks. The structure makes it easier to score very highly with a HD being extremely achievable with a moderate amount of consistent work. The other good part of this is that only very few topics are tested more than once so you do not have to remember the large volume of information you learn throughout the semester for later tests or the exams (other than basic concepts). Number one tip for the in semester tests is to use the practice tests as those questions or similar always appear in the tests.

The lecturer was amazing and the in semester assessments are worth a small amount so that you can do badly in one and still do well overall in the subject. The end of semester exam is only worth 15% so you can focus on other subjects whose end of semester exams are worth more.

An interesting and easy-going unit that is very easy to do well in :) Pracs are completed in groups and prac assessments were either quizzes (which you can do well in if you watch the lectures and makes notes) or group crosswords (where we were given practice versions online prior to the prac week). The three in-semester assessment quizzes were moderately difficult but as said before the lectures notes do help and I'd suggest having them with you when you're doing the quizzes. I personally did not use the module notes because I get stressed when I have too much content to revise but still got a distinction for my in-semester grade :) For the web problem quizzes don't go into them without doing the classes first because the questions are very similar and it's easy marks. The case study assessment was a group task so make sure to revise lecture notes or you'll let down you group if no one prepares for it (it's easy marks that can help raise your grade!). For the poster assessment we were given a ton of topics to choose from and it isn't too hard to get good marks if you know your topic well, cover most general points and can somewhat answer most qs from the assessors. Don't put too much text on your poster, use cue cards/dot point on a sheet to say your info, and have some extra info to use for their qs. Finally the exam was quite easy! This coming from someone who had an ECC1000 exam on the same day a few hrs later. I barely studied for the exam and watched half of the topic 5 lectures and read through the lecture notes for the second half and still managed to answer the required amount of qs and pass the exam. Ramesh's tip is to focus and work hard during semester to ease the pressure off the final exam and I 100% agree. Hope my advice helps ^^

Ramesh is a brilliant lecturer, and the tutors and outside lecturers were good as well. Content is not immensely difficult, and the use of in-semester assessment (worth 85% of the unit) was a huge stress relief. The final exam was not strenuous, and was only worth 15% (and not a hurdle). I highly recommend!

Ramesh is a really great teacher and delivers the content in an entertaining way.

BEST LECTURER ON THE PLANET. Super supportive and understanding. However, he did have favorites which was annoying but overall, easy and manageable unit and the exam was worth 15% and not a hurdle. Most people were able to recieve a HD within semester and didn't require to study for the exam
