I'm one of the top mathematics students at UWA, with a WAM of 93.250 and a GPA of 7.000. In fact, I was even awarded a letter of commendation by the head of the Mathematics and Statistics Department for getting a perfect score in my real analysis unit (MATH1013). Prof Serena Dipierro, the lecturer for that unit, wrote the following: "Thomas is one of the best students that I have met in my career, no surprise that he has completed MATH1013 with full marks. Thomas is extremely talented, brilliant, has a mature approach to mathematics, and has already developed a fine taste for beautiful mathematical problems." However, I have not always been so successful academically. I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 17. During high school I found that content (especially mathematics) was often presented in a confusing and unmotivated manner. Equations tended to “fall from the sky”, being presented with no indication of where they came from, as if they were magical spells that simply just worked. This is bad even for neurotypical students, but with my condition I especially found it impossible to properly learn the material. After diagnosis, I spent the next two years teaching myself mathematics. During this time, I started to realize how poorly mathematics is taught in schools. I found that I could only learn mathematics successfully from authors which took the time to motivate the ideas, ones that gave me the sense I could have discovered them myself. While these ideas apply to all mathematics teaching, I have found them especially effective for students with Autism and/or ADHD. My pathway into UWA required me to complete an abridging course at Edith Cowan University. Afterwards, I completed a year of study at Charles Sturt University, which allowed me to get into UWA due to my academic performance. While I now study at one of the most prestigious universities in Australia, I understand on a personal level the experience of someone who “doesn’t get maths”. What distinguishes me from my peers is that this was my experience not too long ago. I heavily incorporate these insights into my tutoring, and find I have an easy time connecting with people who identify themselves as “not a maths person”. In fact, I often find it easier to teach non-math students! My number one goal with students is to ensure they are not afraid of the mathematics I am teaching them. G’day everyone on StudentVIP! Are you looking for a math whisperer? Well, you’ve found the right tutor — stop searching and contact Thomas now! Thomas has an exceptional ability to pinpoint your barriers of understanding, unpack confusion from lectures, and explain complex concepts in a way that feels like poetry. He’s responsive, flexible, and always on time. I’ll absolutely be using Thomas again in future semesters for other MATH units at UWA. A bit about me: my name’s Michael, and I came to UWA as a mature-age Mining Engineering student without an ATAR. After completing both bridging units MATH1720 and MATH1721 with scores in the mid-70s, I thought MATH1722 would be a breeze... how wrong I was! I first attempted MATH1722 in Sem 2, 2024 (under the previous lecturer) and failed with a 43. I tried again in Sem 1, 2025 but withdrew early — the new lecturer’s style just didn’t click for me. Now in Sem 2, 2025, I’m attempting MATH1722 again, this time with Thomas by my side since week 2. Thomas immediately identified my conceptual gaps, figured out how I learn best, and has genuinely made me love calculus (did I just write that?!). He’s patient, adaptable, and can come up with challenging problems on the spot to help you stretch your problem solving skills. I’m already looking forward to working with him next year for my next two MATH units.

I would like to acknowledge Thomas for his outstanding support in my Microeconomics class. His ability to explain complex concepts with clarity and precision was instrumental in helping me develop a deeper understanding of the subject. He consistently addressed my questions with patience and insight, dissuading any doubts I had and strengthening my confidence in the material. Thanks to his guidance, I was able to achieve a final unit mark of 95! I would strongly recommend Thomas for anyone looking to do well in this unit.

I have always struggled with math, Thomas was my tutor throughout the entire semester for MATH1721, and I cannot recommend him enough. He quickly identified the root of my confusion and always offered different ways to explain complex topics and answer questions. Thomas didn’t just help me find the right answers—he helped me genuinely understand the underlying concepts and the reasoning behind each step. His focus was on teaching me the process, so I could confidently approach problems on my own instead of just memorising steps. He was patient, and attentive, and made sure I grasped each concept fully before moving on.

Thomas was my tutor while i was preparing for my math1011 and math 1012 exams. Topics i had no clue how to go about or i struggled with become clear and simple for me after just one session with Tom. Tom makes maths simple and easy for anyone, he is reliable, patient and a great teacher. I strongly recommend using tom as your tutor if you are struggling with maths. I will continue to use him next semester as he makes maths so easy to understand.

Hello, my name is Jonny and I recently finished my Bachelor of Education thanks to the excellent support and help from Thomas. I started seeing Thomas in February quite regularly for the semester to help tutor me in two mathematics units: Applied Mathematics and Statistics. All I can say of Thomas is that he is extremely intelligent, personable and comprehensive in the way he explains and scaffolds difficult concepts and ideas. Thomas was very thorough in his delivery and very personable as well as student centred in his approach to each session. Thomas was an amazing tutor throughout the end of my degree and I would highly recommend him to all people who need any guidance or support in mathematics. Thomas has given me significant confidence and a positive mindset when tackling mathematical questions and has made me really love mathematics. Thomas was an unbelievable support and amazing tutor who I would 100% reach out to and recommend for anyone who is lacking confidence and skillset with their mathematics. You will be guaranteed to benefit with some personalised 1 on 1 support from a high quality and reliable tutor!
