UNSW Business Tutor Gerry

Gerry has helped me on 3 different third year finance courses in subjects focused on Valuations, and Investments and Portfolio Management. Gerry is one of the best teachers that I have had the pleasure of learning from. It is clear that he spends hours of his own time preparing key concepts and materials before sessions, in order to maximise the learning in each session. This commitment, approachability and flexibility made me passionate about areas of finance that I previously had no interest in and helped me achieve marks that I did not believe I was capable of achieving. Gerry has left a lasting impact on my education and I can highly recommend his services.

I took lessons with Gerry for Semester 2 2024 as I struggled with Corporate Finance concepts. Gerry has a deep understanding of the subject and knows how to break down difficult concepts into simple, clear explanations. Gerry also went beyond just answering my questions, as he prepared extra practice problems, helped with exam strategies, and was always available to clarify anything I didn’t understand. Thanks to Gerry, I not only did well in the subject but also felt a lot more confident tackling the material. If you’re struggling with finance subjects, I’d highly recommend him.

I had a number of lessons with Gerry in 2024. He has a strong understanding of finance and explains topics clearly and from first principles, such that difficult concepts become easy to grasp. Most importantly, Gerry is a dedicated tutor who demonstrates genuine concern for the success of his students. He prepares additional practice questions outside of lessons and remains available to answer questions which was immensely helpful for my exam preparation. He is also fair in the manner in which he charges fees. My experience with Gerry has taught me that seeking tutoring is a worthwhile expense, as the benefits of higher marks in crucial subjects far outweigh the cost. A good tutor does not merely explain things, he alleviates the stress and confusion associated with trying to study complicated material on your own. I have every confidence in Gerry’s skills and ability in tutoring finance subjects and I would not hesitate to recommend his services.

I was struggling with USYD FINC3017 and engaged with Gerry for help understanding course content and preparing for the final exam. Not only did he teach me practical understanding of the math, he went further and was able to truly teach me the mechanics of the formulae. Gerry is a fantastic teacher. Patient, understanding, passionate and knowledgeable. He is not only an effective teacher but also a superb human being. I had over 18 sessions with him on FINC3017 at USYD and without his guidance I would not have succeeded in my objectives. I was seriously struggling with FINC3017 at USYD, as I had the bare minimum grasp on core financial modelling and concepts, as well as any excel abilities (ie, I scraped through other Finance units, particularly Corp II). I was extremely nervous about being able to get through this subject, so I approached my USYD Unit Coordinator to seek advice. He himself straight away recommended Gerry - saying that many of his previous students were tutored by Gerry and couldn’t recommend him more. I was a little nervous about the Zoom approach as I’d never done it before however, each and every session was executed SO efficiently and we powered through some crazy concepts using multiple tools on Zoom. Gerry had incredible patience with me as I was slow to grasp the heavy content, and he went ABOVE AND BEYOND consistently, in writing up numerous practice questions with extremely in-depth solutions, lecture summary notes with examples, exam practice questions and plenty more. On top of his knowledge and ability to communicate this, he is also a pretty incredible person. 10/10 recommend reaching out to Gerry for his services, as I am certain I would not have been able to get through this unit without him!
