UniMelb Science Tutor Luke

I am a fully registered teacher from Victoria, and I have been teaching for 4 years in VCE Chemistry and P-10 Science + Maths. I have also been a private tutor for 10 years in VCE Chemistry, Mathematical Methods, Further Mathematics, English and P-10 Science + Maths. I did this tutoring alongside my Bachelor of Science, my Masters of Secondary Education and my first years as a teacher. I have helped students reach their desired ATARs and I have helped students catchup and finish their studies when they thought they couldn't. However, my current focus as a tutor is on students who need more broad support in their final years of schooling. I help students who are completing VCE in alternative settings, like home schooling or online schooling, as they sometimes need assistance with structuring their learning and building healthy study habits in these new learning environments. My goal is to not only help my students perform well in VCE, but also to prepare them for the transition to tertiary education. I completed VCE in 2015 with an ATAR of 91.65, but I did not learn the habits I needed to thrive in the university environment until several years later, and my performance was the poorer for it. My teaching style is explicit, with a gradual release of responsibility so that students can build confidence in their own learning abilities. These responsibilities extend beyond curriculum knowledge, to things like sourcing appropriate learning materials for sessions, managing and communicating schedules and answering emails promptly. I offer online sessions as well as in person at a location in Gladstone Park. Group sessions are not formally offered, but I have facilitated them in the past under certain circumstances (please inquire for details).
