Absolutely loved this subject!!! If you are at all interested in Art History I would definitely recommend, all the staff I interacted with were great, Christopher and the two guest lectures were amazing. By far the most interesting, interactive tutorials I attended this year, (shout out to Francis who was super sweet and engaging). I did HSC Visual Arts in high school and took this subject as a breadth as I'm as science student and found it very manageable with my other subjects. The NGV excursion was also very informative and well run!

Loved this subject! Such a great brain workout, where everyone contributed in the tutorials and actually seemed interested in the subject. Great if you love history of any kind, or recently took studio art in VCE. Not so much formal analysis, but the subject more focused on art movements, styles and ethics of creation and displaying of art. Christopher as the main lecturer was fantastic, even over zoom, and the addition of an excursion to the NGV was so good!!! Assignments were challenging, but feedback is extremely constructive- humbling but great if you want to actually improve writing. Only bad thing about this subject is the stupid Chicago A style formatting lol…. Super hard to get your head around as a first semester first year student, who has only previously had experience with APA. Honestly still couldn’t tell you whether I did the referencing right, but it doesn’t feature heavily in the marking.

A very interesting and comprehensive introduction to art history and some of the greatest issues within the subject. Callum and the tutors are all very engaging, and the assignments aren't too difficult, but the 2000 word essay certainly took some time to research. I had some prior art history knowledge from high school, but you certainly don't need any - the introductions to art analysis are very helpful.
