A very poorly planned subject. I'm sure according to the handbook, it had been run before in previous years. However with our tutors and assessments, it felt like it was run for the first time this year, so not too sure. Anyways I know many people will be wondering what exactly you do in this subject so I'll try to explain. So, you form a group and work together to write a strategy proposal report for a client you choose. One of the assessments is having an online meeting with the client who you're encouraged to keep in touch through emails. However our client would reply late or not at all which was frustrating, it ultimately felt like the client didn't actually care. Furthermore, the differences in criteria and objectives between assessment 2 & 3 were very much the same and our tutors also seemed confused but tried their best to clarify with us. The classes also try to balance from being online and on campus, it was really your option whether you wanted to go on zoom or come to class. The former was very tempting, however having half the group online or on campus was difficult, so the group would need to communicate whether to come to class or go on zoom together. Overall, Max was amazing, he was supportive throughout the daunty and frustrating process between the confusing assessment criteria and client's delay in emails which was out of his control. However, you learn some really interesting things in some classes such as how to use the most of the university's library searches (however, kind of late to only find out in third year) and how to use the boolean function when looking for a job. Other classes weren't as helpful such as learning about social media or writing resumes which didn't introduce anything really new. Overall what you make of this subject really depends on you're groupmates, you'll be sitting with them, doing ice breakers and doing every step of the way with them. So this is crucial and can make or break your experience. I found myself at the end of the semester looking forward to cutting contact from particular group members, however overall my group did their parts and we got a nice H1. However, if you end up with bad groupmates, the whole subject will be frustrating. I appreciate the university attempting on getting us experience in working with a client, but like I said, our client seemed disinterested and our project proposal didn't seem like something they would actually consider. We sent out proposal report to them, but I doubt they even looked at it. This didn't matter to our group, but if it does for you, then try picking a client the tutor highlights that past groups had good experience with.
