Result- 53 Pass. Incredibly frustrating, both in terms of the assessment & coordination. I mean, goodness sake, how relevant are plants to human biology? NONE! The biomolecules & mammalian physiology lectures were solid. Labs were okay, the dissection of a rat & heart a main highlight. Assessments were atrocious. Thankfully I somehow survived & got across the line. I was unwell on the day of the actual examination & submitted a special consideration request for a supplementary resit but declined for obvious reasons. Phew!

The subject was quite decent overall, and a comprehensive introduction to biology. If you haven't done biology in high school/VCE, then the content can be quite overwhelming and can go very fast, so make sure you stay up-to-date with the lectures. The practicals were quite interesting as well, especially the dissections.

Grade: 87. The content jumps a lot between different areas of biology which can confuse you. Ignoring the structure of teaching, the content itself is good and prepares you for a wide field of study in biomed. Assessment quality is poor though. Feedback for quizzes isn't given because... idk... For written assignments, marking standards differ by marker which makes expectations unclear.

Not sure if this is only since the new syllabus update but it's the same as Biology: Life's Machinery (in science). They just re-used the lecture recordings from last year and gave us the same lectures as those in Science. Pracs were also the same, but the assingment was slightly different (Biomed was easier tbh cause they gave us the results). Some of the lecturers sucked and had wrong information (literally stating the opposite to the diagram shown on the screen) BUT others were amazing (e.g. the immunology cat lady). If you're good at MCQs then it's easy to score well in the pracs + quizzes. Group project is a poster and is marked kinda harshly so be careful. Exam was really weird, but ok if you study the content. Would have been good to get more relevant practice... Overall can still do well in the subject (I got a 91) and bits of it are interesting, but it's a bit all over the place...

A good introduction to second-year biomedicine subjects such as MCB. Concepts not particularly difficult if you have done Year 12 biology, but will be more challenging if you haven't. The lab demonstrators and tutors were really helpful, and while I didn't find the practicals very helpful in consolidating my understanding of the lectures, they weren't difficult to do. All in all, a good subject, and a H1 is definitely achievable if you put in the effort!

A great subject that gives you both an overview of biology, with a level of detail that provides the necessary foundation for future biology subjects. Definitely makes you think broadly, but in terms of memorising, is not too intense. Understanding processes is definitely prioritised. Keeping up with the lectures will go a long way. Labs get quite interesting towards the end of the subject with dissections.

This is quite a difficult subject given the amount of content you have to memorize. Out of the first year biomedicine subjects this is probably the hardest and you will have to put a considerable amount of work in to it.

I found that this subject had a little bit of everything, which could be a great thing and a bad thing at the same time. I personally enjoyed delving deep into the details (as in Second year Biomedicine subjects) rather than covering the overview of the body systems (as in this subject). However the labs were interesting. Not sure whether having done high school biology is immensely helpful.

This subject is an introductory subject to Biology in University. However, it requires VCE Year 12 Biology and can be fast paced. It is a core subject for Biomedicine students. Lecturers are good, however, students need to keep up with the workload, adjusting from high school.

half is a review of your VCE Yr 12 Biology. and the rest is about different human systems but at a very shallow level. requires just carefulness and memorization. Lab very interesting.
