Well run. SO much better than foundational biology.

Grade: H1 (94). My favourite subject so far at Melbourne. Going into this subject with no Chemistry background may seem daunting, but it is very much doable! I was able to get a high score despite no prior knowledge. The labs are really fun and have the nicest demonstrators and are good ways to secure high marks. The MST's are just short, open book multi-choice quizzes which you shouldn't worry about at all as long as you have kept up with the lectures. The exam is challenging (especially the organic sections), but as long as you complete the past papers and review the tutorial questions, you shouldn't get any surprises. A great introduction to Chemistry and a subject that I highly recommend you should do if you have any interest in Chemistry.

great subject, well taught and definitely manageable if you stay on top of things and practice exercises/examples every week!

Super content-heavy due to being a prerequisite, but overall not too bad a subject. The lecturers are knowledgeable, passionate and helpful. Beware though, having to learn the main points of Years 10, 11 and 12 Chemistry in 36 hours' worth of lectures is not ideal, so don't expect the material to be covered in depth. Would recommend supplementing the subject with VCE textbooks to make up for not doing it in school, and also prior to starting Chemistry 1.

Really really interesting subject, very well taught in my opinion. The tutors were extremely kind and understanding of personal circumstances, and willing to put in extra time to help. As long as you keep up to date with this subject, it's really worth your time (and money!)

great for those without VCE chemistry, a lot of information but the lecturers are really helpful and give you plenty of opportunity to seek help

I felt a little overwhelmed in the lectures but the tutorials helped clear everything up and made it easy to do well, it was crazy how much of it I learnt and actually remembered in the next semester

This subject has a large workload, seeing as it incorporates both year 11 and 12 chemistry together in one semester. However, it's really well-taught and the lecturers are all really helpful. The only thing I found particularly off-putting were the labs, as my demonstrator wasn't friendly or overly helpful and they were pretty stressful.
