ditto to everything that everyone has said. extremely interesting theories and concepts. very heavy and wordy readings that are expected to be engaged with very thoroughly for tutorials. very harsh marking with not very valuable feedback to build upon

Definitely agree with everything said by the other person who posted for Sem 1 2023 ('Fun subject...'). I personally struggled a bit with the later content (a lot of theories and ideas were completely new to me), but it was still really interesting and I'm glad I learned them, even though it was hard. I found Elena was a good but somewhat harsh marker - definitely one of my lowest subjects in my degree so far (I'm in my 3rd year), but again, my lesser confidence with the content would be a factor too.

Fun subject. Not SUPER interesting, but it had its moments. Elena is a good tutor and provided good feedback, you can tell that she cares. Definitely requires a lot of reading and understanding, and be prepared to incorporate some solid practical examples into your theoretical arguments in the assignments. If you can't balance both of those things perfectly in an essay don't expect an H1. The blog component is always super fun to do though!

This subject was incredibly fascinating and I would highly recommend it if you are interested in gender studies, cultural studies, and/or sexuality studies. That being said, the level of writing they expected from us in the assignments just didn't match up with the lectures and tutorial discussions, and it was difficult to push past the H2B threshold despite my interest and abilities.

i loved the content this subject provided but they had heavy reading every week, plus the tutor i had was unhelpful in analysing the content and once had a tirade in class after the first assignment was released on how sh*t we all are at writing and that we don't understand the content and that the tutor was dissapointed in us. otherwise, love the lecturer and blog component!
