My favourite part of this subject was probably my tutor! She really helped me to consolidate my ideas and frame what I wanted to write for my assignments. Speaking of, the assessments themselves weren't too bad. They're all very broad and have some guidelines for what your tutor is looking for when reading the piece, which is a double edged sword. The readings are probably the biggest leg up in this subject - they give you a good idea of what creative non-fiction is and tbh a great source of inspiration for how and what to write about. Beware there are a lot though (at least I found, there were on avg maybe 6 readings per week? with varying numbers of pages). I want to mention this point because it made an impact on me while I was completing this subject: the other students felt a bit pretentious at times. I'm probably just a layperson who enjoys a good read and thinks about what was discussed in their spare time, but some of the stuff my peers said made me rethink if we were really doing the same subject. Nothing against them! It just made it harder to contribute in group discussions, which were the seminars. For this subject there aren't any lectures, only one 2 hour seminar every week - so whoever's in your class is who you're with for the subject (which also has it's benefits!!). Despite this, it was probably just my luck. I think there are probably more approachable and lively classes I would've gotten along with better! I would definitely recommend this subject to anyone who's interested in creative writing, I think it's one of the more approachable ones and genuinely thought provoking/applicable to real life. OH and Maria, the subject coordinator, is the absolute best - she is so easy and warm to chat to, definitely one of the most approachable and sincere subject coordinators I've spoken with. <3

It was a really interesting with so many wonderful readings and topics throughout the semester! It's a lot looser than the subjects I'm used to (I'm an architecture student and this was my breadth), so I struggled to find footing at the start in terms of what to write about, how to do my presentation, and how to write, but it was really interesting once I got into it. There's no real rubric for the assignments, just guidelines, which made it a bit more confusing, but overall the workload was pretty chill and I could focus on my more content heavy classes, but I think I still could have done better if I'd put a little more time in. Also! No lectures, just a 2 1/2 hour tutorial/workshop every week and a bunch of readings to do each week before the tutorial.
