I liked it. The lecturers were mostly fun to listen to. The atmospheric science part gets very repetitive and boring. But the practicals are ok and the content is not too heavy.

Firstly- the lecturers are honestly not the problem with this subject. All of them are very helpful and enthusiastic in their field. The content itself was also quite interesting and since it covers a range of fields even if one topic may seem boring to you there is less time spent on that one area so overall the course was quite engaging. HOWEVER, the practicals in my opinion were run very poorly. The practicals often weren't finished during the session due to lack of time, however the post practical quiz (which contributes 2% per quiz and ran over 10 weeks) would require the practical to be finished in order to do well on them. These quizzes would test the smallest of details which was extremely annoying, especially since the people running the practicals would tell us to "complete the sheets in our own time" even though the quiz had to be completed straight after the practical. Many of the pracs were also boring and less enjoyable especially towards the end of the semester. The poster assignment was also poorly explained. Marks seemed to be given on the basis of aesthetic rather than the quality of research and the feedback was quite vague and thus, unhelpful. The exam itself was honestly not that easy either. Many of the multiple choice seemed to be very random and some could be argued to have multiple answers as correct. Honestly, this is not an easy subject overall and in the end I probably ended up with the same amount of notes as the first year biology subjects. I do not recommend this subject for people who are looking for easier WAM booster subjects, or even for people who don't already have a decent understanding in earth science.

Honestly wasn't what I expected when going into the subject as I thought it was going to be more focused on the area of environmental science so I was originally skeptical, but was pleasantly surprised by the content and how engaging it was. Great mixture of different areas of Earth Science such as physical geography and geology, and the lecturers made it interesting for the most part. Practicals in the beginning were very cool, got to look at physical specimens, however they became more theoretical as the semester went on so were arguably less enjoyable. The group project (poster) was alright, but some of the marking was more focused on aesthetics which I guess was subjective to the marker, but it was still pretty simple to get a decent mark. The exam was very accessible as well. Would definitely recommend this subject to anyone interested in any kind of Earth Science as you get a broad introduction to it. Probably would be a good breadth subject as well as it doesn't include much maths, and is more similar to a humanities style subject than other sciences.

Cool combination of different areas of Earth Science, worth trying especially since you don't really get to do this at High School. I liked the lecturers, especially David Karoly and his section on Climate Change, and coordinator Anne-Marie Tosolini is very nice and will remember your name if you participate in pracs. Word of warning is that this is very different to usual science subjects; no equations or practice calculations to be made here, you've got to be prepared to understand broader concepts of how our Earth works instead. This was jarring for me, especially as a first year student new to Uni, but I'd encourage you to give this subject a go and try to get something different out of it compared to others. It's a wide world out there to learn about and you don't often hear of the cool things people study in Earth Science majors.
