Pretty decent French subject, I found it easier to get a high mark than other French ones I've done. Most of the lectures were boring and completely irrelevant, but a few had guest speakers talking about the actual translating work they do which was better. The tutes were great though. I learnt a lot in them by working on short translations with other students and getting immediate feedback from the tutor. They were pretty tiring though as they did go for 2 hours each. Overall a good subject, I'd recommend it to French students.

Genuinely the BEST French subject I've ever done. The lectures are virtually useless but there were several guest lecturers that spoke about their work in the translation field which was interesting. There is only only one tutorial a week and they were all translating various text types like stories, informative texts and articles. It's very therapeutic and more engaging/practical than other French subjects. Assessments were translating phrases full of idioms, transcribing and translating a spoken text, and translating a longer text. The class average was around 80 for them. The subject was just continuous translation from French to English, and I'd highly recommend doing it for an easier French subject while learning good vocab and expressions.

This sounds like a super easy subject, but translation is actually more difficult than you'd think. I managed to get an H1 overall, but for the first translation test we did, I only had a monolingual French dictionary and I struggled a bit and only got an H2B. The lectures are completely pointless and most of the information is relevant, but the few parts of the lecture that are relevant would be better off being taught during tutorials. The tutorials are absolutely painful because they are so long and tedious. One thing I really liked about this subject is the fact that we didn't have to do any oral presentations or anything to do with speaking or having to memorize a speech.

All tests are from French to English, meaning I found this subject to be a great French WAM booster. Good to make sure you understand the translation style your tutor prefers before assessments (e.g. literal or poetic)

Pretty boring subject, good thing is that you definitely learn a ton of new words, dictionaries will be your best friends.
