Cons: Lectures have little relevance to the assessments, most assessments are based on the readings so you're not really missing out by skipping the lectures. It felt like a waste of time attending them sometimes, as I tended to zone out in 2hr lectures anyways. As other students have mentioned, the criteria and the feedback you'll receive are really vague. I also agree it is more sociology than geography cause you discuss ideas like dualism and embodiment, etc. I actually enjoyed this component, but I can see how some people don't. Pros: The content can be fascinating (especially discussing the zoo and indigenous practices), and prompts some really interesting conversation so the tutorials are really fun. It's a pretty small cohort so you become pretty close with the people in your tutorial by the end, so make sure you choose face-to-face if you can! The tutors are really nice too, I had Stas and she was awesome. The workload is also pretty chill compared to other science subjects (1x 2-hour lecture a week and 1x 1hr tutorial), the assignments are well spread out and there's always a good amount of time to complete them. I especially enjoyed the field report and getting to do observations, it's different to other subjects I've completed before. Overall, would recommend the subject if you're into sociology or you're looking for a relatively easy workload. A H1 isn't easy, but if you look at the rubric carefully and ask the right people the right questions, it's very doable.

Very theoretical subject so people that are not used to arts-type content might really hate it. I liked this subject but it is hard to do well in. Has similarities to Reshaping Environments.

Very vague subject. More like a sociology subject than a geography subject. Not much guidances given for the assessments. Not recommended.

The content is interesting, but the lecturer is very boring and only reads information in a monotone voice. I had a really good tutor which definitely improved the experience. Still, overall I feel it was a more vague and less well organised subject than Environmental Politics and Management, which is similar in content. For Society and Environments It was unclear what the markers were looking for in the assessments and the instructions for essays were vague and unhelpful. I found this subject very difficult to do well in even though I put in a lot of work. I wouldn't recommend it.

such a hopeless subject - very vague, no solid content, the final take home essay question made absolutely no sense and they harshly marked assignments. would definitely not recommend.
