I was honestly disappointed by this subject. I was expecting a greater variety of media sources that we could look at, given the breadth of media used by Japanese people, but instead we were generally limited to newspaper articles every week. To be honest, you examine a greater variety of media in Japanese 7, 8, and Variations, which look at more videos, forums and even social media in greater detail. Additionally, it seemed that after week 6, lectures were focused on teaching essay writing - relevant to the final assignment - rather than teaching new content. This final essay felt far too spoonfed to the class of mainly second and third year students, and I wish we had been able to focus on other tasks rather than having to document each aspect of the research process - that we were all very familiar with already - to improve our media analysis and vocabulary. We needed to do weekly language journals which were manageable, but somewhat annoying. The two lecturers were helpful and gave good feedback, but I just felt that I didn't enjoy the subject content as much as I wanted to.
