(Subject's name is actually "Numerical Methods and Scientific Computing".) I'd only recommend this subject to people who are familiar with Math in general, and not to an average Computing and Software Systems student like myself. I found it rather uninteresting for the most part, and challenging. But the real problem is not that. Firstly, I think the lecturer's (Hailong) English is nigh intelligible. It was already confusing enough for me to take in all the concepts, but with his speaking I was basically completely at loss. I didn't understand anything, and since he's also my tutor, I eventually just stopped going because I almost never got anything out of it. Moreover, the lecturer is too unreasonably conservative when it comes to what can be disclosed for the assignment and what cannot. One time someone just asked a very simple question to specify the specs and he demanded the student to email him so that he can delete the Ed post, which is utterly confusing to say the least. Although with some small 'protests' he eventually did clarify it publicly anyway. Which brings me to my next problem. I think even if Hailong is a brilliant mathematician, because he's not used to write in English (at least that's my assumption), some of the assignment specs were just straight up vague and confusing. Admittedly it was partly my fault for not trying harder to ask for clarifications but I was kinda tired with the apparent lack of support in this subject. I think this sentiment is justified since at one point we were asking very legitimate questions about the assignment, which even the tutor agreed and said they'd ask Hailong for specifications, but that was met with, well, nothing. Hailong very explicitly stated that we couldn't ask anything, and I mean anything at all, for the assignment which I think was just ridiculous. Also very few actually take this subject so there's that for "lack of support". Not to mention, Hailong also refused to give us solutions to past exams, and his explanation was "I don't have it"; and when asking for clarifications, he appeared as obligated as possible so I genuinely never wanted to ask anything on Ed ever. Honestly I just think because of all this, the already confusing experience was made terribly miserable. I don't think the subject itself is inherently THAT difficult, though. Tldr; I dreaded my experience with Hailong, to put it mildly. He can often be quite frustratingly unreasonable, such as absolute-zero discussion for assignments (no further specs specifications even if it is literally wrong) or no providing solutions to past exams because he just doesn't have it, or appearing (maybe as if) not wanting to help students on Ed. As for the content itself, probably better suited for Math majors than CompSci, although CompSci students who are proficient in math can definitely take this as an elective.
