Great subject. Really hands on and basically just have to be journalists. First assignment is a feature story with a certain topic such as "gamechangers". Just interview two people minimum and this is more fun and colourful piece. The lectures are amazing at helping you with the interview process, what types of articles you'll do and how to write them. Really engaging and interesting lecturer. The tutorials are also great at assisting you with assignments, a lot of workshopping and examples. Second assignment as a news story. Interview people with differing perspectives to remain unbiased. I'd say the writing of this is super easy but they want some conflict so if reporting on a neutral story with no negative impact it might not rate as highly. The last assignment during the exam period is an audio feature/podcast. This like the feature has a topic such as "not natural" but really fun to make! Overall fun and interesting subject that is easy to do well in if you get your interviews done early and find interesting topics.

Such a difficult subject. You are treated like a real journalist and marked on the originality of your story ideas and the quality of your interviewees. It is a very practical and interactive subject. But be prepared to put in a lot of work and hope luck is also on your side

A difficult subject, since they expect you to find interviewees (this should be someone you don't know unless they have a high authority to talk about your topic), and talk to them in 10-15 mins either face to face or video/phone call (where not many people are willing to spend their time just for a student. This happened to me). Luckily, I took this subject during covid-19 restriction, if not, they will ask me to take at least 5 photos related to the interviewees (many interviewees refuse to have their places photographed, and you can't use photos from the internet nor screenshots). Really strict marking and they put a really high expectations on you. They treat you like a real journalist, not a student. They don't even give you the lecture slides before the lecture, so you can't take a notes on it. In my tutorial class, students were paired to one another during the semester. When I had some doubts about the subject, my tutor said that I should ask my study partner instead of him. I mean, they're a student just like me, and they might not know the exact answer to my questions??? The only good thing in this subject is they have no readings nor essay at all, the sources are purely from your interviewees. I would say its hard to find the interviewees, in fact its the most stressful part of this subject. Do take this subject if you like practical subjects, though.

I enjoyed this subject very much. Jay is a great lecturer, very engaging. The topics for the assignments are broad enough that you can pursue your interest while remaining focused. I had a tutor who was highly experienced in the field and was very helpful.
