I'm a psych and media & comms major. I chose this subject to have a break from the content-heavy psych stuff. This was kinda boring, in my opinion, BUT durable and a great WAM booster, to be honest. I didn't watch the lectures in the second half of the semester but it wasn't a problem - this was mainly because there was next to no sound on the recordings and because there was no information on the slides (they just waffle). The tuts go for 1.5 hours which definitely could be shorter. In my tut we just read the readings and had one or two discussions about them. The readings are pretty long but that's all you talk about in the tuts so you can gauge what they're about in the tuts. You do have to do a mini presentation on the readings or the first assignment. The first essay is super easy - just pick an image and analyse it. The second is during the exam period and is a bit harder but still pretty easy. It's 2500 words on 1 of 10 I think prompts they give you. 6 references minimum and you just take any contention on the prompt you pick. Overall easy subject to pass, some interesting topics - mostly pretty vague, not much content and just two assignments.

A great subject, super interesting content! Shout out to Damien for being an awesome tutor. I found the first assignment to be particularly interesting - a visual analysis on an image(s) of your choice. You can choose literally any image from 21st century pop culture to the Mona Lisa, so allowed us to explore a topic of personal interest. Generally the themes throughout the subject were very interesting and enabled great discussions in class

This subject was a breath of fresh air. As a Media and Comms student, majority of the media subjects I've taken up so far have been super repetitive. This subject, on the other hand, presented a new perspective within this field of study and it was so interesting & insightful. I'd recommend this if you are more into the artsy, digital and visual side of media. I ended up learning a lot about images in general and I'd say it's quite useful in the future.

I'd recommend doing this subject as part of the Media & Communications major! I heard that the other level 2 subjects are quite terrible, but I had a good time with this one. There are two assessments being two essays, which together did not consume too much time and there was substantial guidelines regarding both of them. I really liked my tutor, Dr Rusaila, who prompted a lot of interesting discussions in the class. If you're outspoken and love sharing your ideas, you will have a good time in tutorials. I didn't really watch the lectures in the later weeks and they were not that content heavy imo. The quality of lectures were not up to expectations despite the coordinators/lecturers being passionate about the topics. However, I think this is the first year ever this subject has been run so hopefully they can improve in the coming years. Readings are actually very interesting in most of the weeks and I found them super relevant to the final essay, so definitely read at least a few of them.
