Reviews
(Review for AMGT90029 which is also called Applied Research Methods) This is a required subject for Master of Arts and Cultural Management, and was only offered as a summer intensive with like 80 people in the class. It was boring, and the hours were long, but ultimately it was a very necessary subject for masters student because it introduced us to the knowledge needed for the capstone. This subject is what ARTS40001 Research Principles & Practices Honours should have been.

Definitely some pros and cons for this one, but unfortunately the cons were pretty significant. Actual content covered was very minimal and fairly easy. 20% of your grade comes from a group presentation - considering this is a capstone subject that was honestly pretty ridiculous. The tutors explicitly acknowledged that group projects are never 'fair' and it's quite common for one or two people to do almost all the work - if they know that, still having the project account for 20% of our grade doesn't make any sense. Instructions for first assignment were incredibly vague, and marking was very odd (and entirely inconsistent with literally every other subject I did during my degree)

A bit dry at some points but the assessments were fair and the content wasn't difficult to understand. Definitely an important capstone subject and I personally found it better than its 2nd year 'critical analytical skills' counterpart.

Applied Research Methods was unlike any other subject I have done previously in my Arts degree. It was a nice break from the usual classes as it was methodological and applicable to any social issues around the world rather than studying specific issues and forming an opinion.
